Music Review

Lady Gaga- Born This Way. **** 4/5

Lady Gaga, the name you hear frequently in conversations, on radio stations, and on television talk shows. This reletively new artist began her fame and creativity in 2008 with her album The Fame. Many hit singles were found on this album, such as Just Dance, Poker Face and Paparazzi. These three songs have meaningless lyrics and weak or no messages at all. They are therefore the typical pop song, making her album come across as a joke with no different or unique qualities. However, Gaga's new album managed to create songs with intriguing messages as well as a catchy beat.

Her relatively new hit single "Born This Way", released on March 23rd, 2011, has lyrics that have struck much controversy within people, but has a very powerful message. Usually when you listen to a song, the message is carefully hidden beneath the lyrics. This wasn't the case for Gaga, her message was clearly voiced to the public. Having her lyrics so personal, yet so open, many people's attention was captured throughout the world. Although her message is so open, she still leavs some of her lyrics to be interperated how you please. Through the song she says "it doesnt matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M", many people have looked at these lyrics as Gaga is referring to God when she says "H-I-M", others however, see it as god has no gender, and therefore this could not be about god. Some people have considered this song innapropriate since The Bible states that gays and lesbians should not be. But many others have interporated it as a great message about loving someone for who they are.

Born This Way has an extremely powerful message about accepting other for who they are, loving yourself, and loving others for what they are on the inside. This song lets people know its ok to be who they are and that being different is not wrong. Hopefully many of Gaga's fans will pick up on this message and the world can become less of a judgemental society.

Did Avatar Deserve to Win Best Picture?

During the 82nd annual academy awards show, The Hurt Locker was awarded Best Picture. Recieving this title over the movie Avatar sparked much debate amongst people. Many people believe that Avatar was "robbed" when it didnt win Best Picture, and I agree. The Hurt Locker earned $49,230,772 in gross revenue, where as Avatar earned $2,782,275,172. Avatar was clearly the more popular choice of the two.

Avatar was one of the most revolutionary of its kind. The great amounts of detail and effort that were put into it were extraordinary and the graphics were better than any other movie at that time in history. Whereas the basic idea behind The Hurt Locker was extremely unoriginal. It was just another movie about war. Avatar on the other hand managed to capture the attention of such a large audience by creating a new species of human as well as an entire new planet with gorgeous landscapes and scenery. Thirdly, Avatar portrayed humans as the enemy or attacker instead of the "good guys" who save the world, and the few humans who were actually there to help the Navi people, were eventually killed off. Avatar added that unexpected twist. On top of being extremely creative and technologically advanced Avatar managed to have a romantic element throughout the storyline. It's tragic, moving and full of emotion.

Avatar deserved to win Best Picture because of it's extremely talented use of technology, its unexpected storyline, and the sincere and touching romantic element.

The Greatest Movie Hero

In my opinion, the greatest movie hero would be from the movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The Hero is played by Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released on June 4th 2004 in North America. It grossed a total of $795.6 million worldwide and was nominated for 2 Academy Awards.

Harry Potter is a young boy who is continuing his third year of schooling at Hogwarts and not only does he have a new "Defense Against the Dark Arts" teacher but there is lots of trouble brewing. A convicted murderer has escaped the Wizard's Prison and is said to be coming after Harry. Harry's hero birth came into place in the first movie when he was told he was a Wizard. Not only was he just a Wizard, but he was "the boy who lived". He was the only person who overthrew the powers of Lord Voldemort, he survived because of his mothers love and was left with only a scar on his forhead.

Throughout the movie Harry has many quests along his journey. It first begins when Harry becomes very angry at his aunt and accidentally uses magic outside of Hogwarts to make her float away. Harry is then fed up with living with the Dursley's and packs up items and leaves the house during the middle of the night. He is left alone on the streets and has to find his way to shelter. The night bus soon picks him up and finds him a place to stay for the night. Soon after he is on his way to Hogwarts when the Dementors of Azkaban raid the train for sirius black. Since Harry has seen genuine horrors in his past he is more vulnerable to the Dementors. Because of this, Harry hears his mothers screams and then faints. This problem with the dementors continuously reappears throughout the film. For example, it appears during a Quidditch match and Harry is knocked off his broomstick mid game.

Having this vulnerablilty made Harry want to learn the Patronus charm which is used to get rid of dementors. Harry works on mastering this charm with Lupin for quite a while.

Next, Harry's classmates go on a trip to the local village, Hogsmade, but Harry cannot attend because his Uncle Vernon would not sign the permission form. This is when Fred and Goerge Weasley give Harry the Marauder's map.

After the excecution of Buckbeak, a large black dog attacks Ron and drags him into a tunnel under the whomping willow, which leads to the Shrieking Shack.

Lastly, in the Shrieking Shack Harry finds out that Peter Petegrew is Ron's rat, Sirius is innocent and Lupin is a wearwolf. Once they all exit the Whomping Willow they realize the full moon has come out and Lupin, unwillingly, turns into a wearwolf. Sirius then fights the wearwolf in order to keep the children safe. After the fight sirius is badly injured and wanders down to a pond to die. Harry follows him to find the dementors about to suck out his soul. Harry, knowing the partonus charm, uses it to get rid of the dementors but cannot succeed because there is just too many of them. They are saved at the last minute by a strange figure using the Patronus Charm, which Harry believes to have been cast by his father. Harry then passes out.

Harry's Impossible task begins when he awakens in the castle to learn that Black has been captured. To save him, Harry and Hermione use the Time-Turner to travel back in time and prevent his captured. To save him, Harry and Hermione use the Time-Turner to travel back in time and prevent his capture. Harry and Hermione rescue Buckbeak and re-watch the scenes of the night, until they see the Dementors cornering Harry and Sirius. Harry is determined to see who sent the Patronus, only to realise that it was himself. This puts him in the position of using what he has learned and his power in order to save himself and sirius. Harry succeeds and Sirius is rescued and flees on Buckbeak.

Harrys return home consits of him and Hermione rushing to get back into the hospital wing where they first went back into time, before it reaches 7 o clock. On there way into the hospital wing they run into Dumbledore who is just leaving. Since Dumbledore just left the hospital wing, where they were, they had to make up an excuse as to why they managed to get into the hall. Once they get to ron and tell him everything that happened, they had to find a way to convince all the Professors.

Harry's reward is that he gains a "father". well, a godfather. He builds a relationship with his godfather and is offered a home to stay for the summer, instead of with the Dursleys. He also gains information about his parents that he never knew.

and lastly, Harry's romantic element. Throughout the movie there is a small amount of romance between Harry and Hermione although it is not touched upon alot. As well a romantic element would be the relationship that Harry builds with Sirius. It is not a romance but it is surely a strong father-son like relationship.

A hero is defined as a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. Harry Potter is the greatest hero of all time because he is courageous when it comes to putting his life on the line for others, is gracious and humble when it comes to praise and thinks only of the safety of others when it comes to dangerous situations. In Harry Potter and the Prisonr of Azkaban Harry put Serious' life first when it came to the dementors at the pond. He took every risk possible in order to save Serious and Buckbeak and never thought twice about what it could do to his future at hogwarts. Harry is always modest when it comes to fighting or protecting someone. He never feels like he is the strongest or the best, but when hes the only one around he has the strength, courage and ability to fight on his own to win battles. He also doesn't let everyones praise and worship get to his head. Lastly, Harry makes sure he risks his life or his furture before anyone else risks theirs. In conclusion, Harry Potter is the greatest movie hero due to his courageousness, humbleness, and his ways of putting other first.

My Favourite Sit-com

In my opinion the best sitcom ever is friends, by far. The six characters had an amazing chemistry that was very strong and the audience could relate to each individual character on a personal level. The Situations that they created were everyday issues that many people have most likely come across, one time or another. This made the show seem all the more realistic. The humour was very sarcastic and goofy and overall the show was a great success that lasted for ten years, with re-runs still being played.
